Now, I know not many people are reading today, but if you’re out there, I have a plea for help.
We’ve got the itch. The itch to go somewhere, to eat something exciting and authentic and can’t-find-it-elsewhere. Problem is, it’s got to be a day trip from Brooklyn. Tomorrow. As in, Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.
If you aren’t already aware of it, we’re Road Food people. By that, I mean we like inexpensive, local specialty-type stuff. The stuff Jane and Michael Stern write about. I picked up their latest, 500 Things To Eat Before It’s Too Late: and the Very Best Places To Eat Them, a week ago. Much to my chagrin, we’ve already tried almost all the places they mention within a few hours of NYC. Bah. So hit me with your best suggestions!
We’ll travel for pizza, burgers, kebabs, ice cream, baked goods, hot dogs (Harry and Stephen especially love a good dog, but I fear there’s nowhere we haven’t tried yet!), farm-fresh vegetable stuff, any kind of comfort food, ethnic specialties… you get the idea. It’s got to be worth a drive, and it’s got to be within 3 hours of NYC. We were hoping to hit Abma’s Farm Stand in northern New Jersey, but they’re closed on Sundays. So is our fave hot dog stand, Rawley’s.
So there you have it. Suggest away!
(How embarrassing would it be if *nobody* comments on this? It’s a holiday weekend, I know…)
