Traditional Rosh Hashana Menu

Traditional Rosh Hashana Menu

I’m not one to reinvent the wheel when it comes to Jew food. I like my chicken soup to taste like chicken, with maybe a hint of dill. My matzo balls aren’t flecked with herbs; when I was growing up the only herbs appearing regularly in my mom’s kitchen came in a dusty jar. And while I’ve been known to play with brisket recipes, on the High Holy Days I don’t mess around.

So here’s my uber-traditional menu for Rosh Hashana. Eat it in good health.

Challah
Overnight Chicken Soup
Matzo Balls (OK, I admit: I went with whole-wheat matzo meal. Newfangled!)
Joan Nathan’s Oh-So-Good Brisket
Kasha Varnishkes
Patricia’s Awesome Apple Cake
Chocolate Honey Cake
